FTS Prediction Markets

Financial education through experience

Turn analysis into markets

Instructors create questions with several possible outcomes. Participants research the problem, trade contracts on those outcomes, and create prices that reveal how a group combines evidence and judgment in real time.

Fully cloud-based. No installation required.

Bring real-world analysis into a market with price discovery

FTSPM brings real-world events and their effects on financial and economic variables into the classroom. Students research the event, express their views across possible outcomes and trade with one another in a market where their decisions help form the price.

Analysis becomes a live process

Students record their reasoning, commit to positions and revise those positions as information and market prices change. Trades, prices, position changes and notes create a time-stamped record for later discussion and reflection.

Beyond conventional paper trading

Paper-trading exercises use prices formed elsewhere, so students usually have no market impact and performance is often evaluated mainly through returns or risk measures. In FTSPM, the class forms the prices: every order can reveal information, affect other participants and create a strategic decision.

This makes analysis, uncertainty, interaction and decision-making part of the learning experience—not simply inputs to a final report.

More than a simple yes-or-no

A simple question can often be answered by finding an existing market price or asking an AI tool. FTSPM's pre-specified cases instead use ranges, multiple outcomes and related markets. Students must decide not only what is most likely, but how probability should be distributed across plausible results.

Research the evidenceUse filings, economic releases, market data and other sources to develop an estimate rather than copy an answer.
Express uncertaintyTrade across ranges and outcomes. The resulting prices show the class forecast and how confident the group is.
Evaluate AI criticallyAI can assist with research, but students still have to check its sources, definitions and calculations. They then go beyond AI by applying their own insights through real-time trading decisions. FTS can collect this reasoning before the market event is realized.
Why the Research tab is part of the application

Trading should begin with evidence, not with an order ticket. Research sits beside Market and Notes so students can move deliberately from source material, to a recorded judgment, to a trade. Today it brings curated sources and case guides into that workflow. It also provides a natural place for optional AI-assisted research in the future—without changing the student's responsibility to verify the analysis and make the forecast.

Use AI to analyze the results

FTSPM lets the moderator create a compact or full anonymized, AI-ready session history, review the exact text, and then copy it or save it as a text file for upload to an AI tool selected by the instructor. This makes it practical to analyze the class's reasoning, trading decisions, price discovery and results quickly enough to bring the synthesis back into the classroom discussion.

Review the analysisCompare the evidence and reasoning participants recorded, including how their views changed over time.
Connect decisions to performanceRelate notes, trades, position changes and outcomes without reducing the exercise to a single score.
Return insights to the classUse the synthesis to discuss price discovery, disagreement, information, strategy, overconfidence or herding.

FTSPM does not send session data to an AI service. The moderator reviews the exact text before copying it or saving a file for upload.

What price discovery adds

A forecast made alone is one person's answer. A classroom market turns many independently researched judgments into a visible, evolving assessment—and makes every participant compare a personal estimate with the price created by the group.

1Form an independent viewStudents research the question and estimate the likelihood of each outcome.
2Reveal convictionBids, asks and trades require students to act on differences between their estimate and the current price.
3Update with the groupPrices change as information and judgment enter the market, exposing consensus, disagreement and uncertainty.
4Settle and reflectThe realized outcome and performance provide feedback on both the class forecast and individual decisions.

An AI tool can propose an answer, but it cannot replace this classroom process. Students must evaluate the analysis, decide what they believe, observe what others believe and determine when the market price gives them a reason to trade.

Designed to fit into a course

The initial case library focuses on Accounting, Finance and Economics—areas where forecasts can be researched, traded and later compared with an authoritative result.

AccountingConnect reported results to expectations

Analyze financial statements, earnings releases and consensus estimates, then forecast earnings outcomes and the market's reaction.

How AI analysis works

Student reports and the learning process

Generative AI can produce polished assignments, analyses and project reports in seconds. When a student submits only the finished report, the instructor sees the product but may see much less evidence of how the student researched the question, evaluated conflicting evidence, revised an estimate or exercised judgment.

FTSPM complements the student report with a time-stamped record of the decisions that produced it. The aim is not to replace the report, but to make the learning process available for discussion and reflection.

How FTSPM captures student decisions

Instead of merely submitting an answer, students work through an evolving real-world problem. They must decide which evidence matters, respond to other participants and accept the consequences of their choices.

  1. Research the question
  2. Form an initial estimate
  3. Trade on that view
  4. Respond to information and prices
  5. Revise positions as judgment changes

A generic AI-generated response cannot substitute for this sequence of accountable decisions over time.

What the session record contains

FTSPM preserves evidence that can be considered alongside the student report:

Research notes and written rationales
Trades and order decisions
Market prices and position changes
Settlement, performance and outcomes

This allows the instructor to examine relationships among analysis, responsiveness to information, decisions and results—not simply the polish of the final submission.

How individual decisions create the class forecast

The complete record reveals the micro-to-macro connection: how individual research, judgment and trading decisions combine to produce the market's collective forecast.

Unlike conventional paper trading, which uses prices formed elsewhere, FTSPM lets the class form the prices. Each order can reveal information, influence other participants and create a strategic choice: acting on a view also exposes information to the rest of the market. When a student's analysis points toward one outcome while the market leans toward another, that disagreement becomes an opportunity to revisit the evidence.

How AI can analyze the session record

Instructor-directed AI can examine this rich dataset quickly enough for the synthesis to inform the continuing class discussion. It can help connect recorded reasoning with trades, changing positions, market prices and performance.

  • Who introduced useful information
  • Who contributed to price discovery
  • Who responded when information or prices changed
  • Who tended to follow other participants
  • Where disagreement or noise affected the market
  • Where overconfidence or herding may have appeared

This is an analysis of analysis, decision-making and performance—not automated grading.

Choosing the compact or full history

On the History tab, the moderator selects a completed session and creates the version appropriate for the task. Both versions are anonymized and AI-ready, and both can be copied or saved as a text file.

Full anonymized AI-ready history

Keeps the complete anonymized class trading and results record together with the notes. It supports detailed auditing or deeper analysis, but can be much longer; a matched trade can also appear in both participants' account records.

Instructor control, anonymization, and privacy

FTSPM replaces registered trading identities with consistent labels such as Trader 1 and Trader 2. The moderator sees the exact anonymized text in a review window before deciding whether to copy it or save it as a text file for upload. Nothing is copied, saved or sent automatically to an AI service.

Review remains essential

Free-form notes can contain personal information entered by participants. The moderator should review the displayed text, use only AI services permitted by the institution and follow its privacy and data-use policies. FTSPM requires no AI API key or model-provider setup.

Using the AI synthesis in class

AI can extract patterns that would be difficult to uncover manually in close to real time, but the resulting teaching remains human. Students explain their decisions, defend their reasoning and compare strategies. Together, the class can examine not only whether the market was correct, but how evidence, judgment and group behavior produced the result.

The result is a more demanding and meaningful assignment or team project—one requiring original judgment, sustained engagement and accountable decision-making over time.

AI helps instructors uncover the learning. Students still have to create and defend it.
